A female police woman has left her people in great shock as she committed suicide by setting herself ablaze alongside her two children.
According to The Kenyans, Constable Judith Gallant is said to have locked herself and the children in their house, spattered petrol in the room then set her family ablaze at 10am on Sunday.
Efforts to rescue the three were futile as the Administration Police officer had locked the house from inside. It was gathered that the policewoman had reportedly returned from leave and was scheduled to resume work on Monday.
“I was informed by a junior officer that one of their colleagues had committed suicide. I rushed there only to learn that it was Judith and her two children aged four and six years,”said Micahel Mutonyi, the regional AP commandant.
The slain officer who hails from Kisumu was reportedly new at the station and according to her colleagues who spoke to a local daily, she could have been grappling with a domestic conflict.
Mr Mutonyi also alluded to the incident having been occasioned by domestic issues.
“Our preliminary investigations reveal she wrote a message to a family member that she would take her own life if things are not settled amicably. We are waiting for her family to settle before we start interrogating them about the death,” he said.
The regional AP commandant indicated that they are set to summon the constable’s husband who works with the Homa Bay County Government.
Bodies of the deceased were moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary, Kenya.
