Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved yet another record after his goal for Portugal in Wednesday’s 2-0 UEFA EURO 2016 semi-final win against Wales drew him level with Michel Platini’s long-standing final-tournament career total of nine.
If that was his seventh finals goal, the 31-year-old’s second against Hungary took him to the brink of catching Platini. After setting up the winner in the round of 16 against Croatia and also netting in the quarter-final shoot-out versus Poland, the forward’s latest feat was then confirmed in Lyon with his third strike of this tournament – on what was his 20th UEFA EURO outing – putting him on a par with the great French No10.
