Makeup artist Chinenye married her carpenter boo Sise in Abuja in June. The couple first met at a friend’s traditional wedding in April, 2013.
The groom tells GLtrends “That day, I made a short prayer to God asking him to show me my soulmate. During the ceremony, I remember looking up at one point and noticed she too was looking in my direction. We locked eyes, and from that moment I knew she was the one. I eventually introduced myself, three years down the line we are married.”
But to Chinenye’s surprise, he didn’t ask her for her number immediately. Sise says he knew she was the one already so he didn’t ask because he did not want to rush things. But he got it later from her cousin.
The proposal
Sise proudly says he was Chinenye’s first and only boyfriend so he had to “teach her.”
“It was a little difficult and we also lacked proper communication. There were a lot of things I had to teach her and she is a very private person, so that was a challenge at one point. But we got to learn and manage each other and we taught ourselves a lot. I had the experience and she had things that I was not so used to. We balanced each other.”
Still, he describes his bride as a humble and selfless partner. He proposed to her in December 2014 while they were out for lunch one day.
“I went through an unexpected route. I told her I was tired of our relationship and wanted to us to go out separate ways. At that point she was unsettled, speechless, shocked and in tears. Then I knelt down and said I wanted us to end our relationship and start a new one. Before I could pop the question she screamed: “YES”.
The wedding
Although they had to cut down on a lot of things to achieve a wedding close to their dreams, Sise still describes the big day as a fun day.
“We had a very good master of ceremony and people ate, drank and danced.”
Now they are married, the couple says their plan is to keep loving, supporting, communicating, understanding, managing, enduring, and being there for each other, and, of course, putting the God first.
